The iPados 26 Beta 1 update will eliminate two familiar multitasking features, Split View and Slide Over, to clear the way for a completely new window management system Stage Manager.
In the first Beta version of iPados 26, which was introduced at the WWDC event, Apple was surprised to completely remove the Split View and Slide Over. These are two multitasking tools that have been with iPad users for many years, allowing the screen to split or open an application in a floating window.
This change marks a different step compared to before, when Apple often retains old features in parallel with the addition of new features. This time, the company decided to completely replace the old system to focus on the new window experience.

Apple “death” two familiar multitasking features on iPados 26
For unknown people, Split View allows splitting the screen to run two parallel applications, at the ratio of 50-50 or 75-25. Meanwhile, Slide Over is a smaller application window, which can slide from the edge of the screen and emerge on the main application, which is very convenient for quick checking, email or notes.

The entire multitasking experience on the iPad will now revolve around the Stage Manager – the feature that allows the management of multiple application windows that can change the size and overlap, similar to the experience on Mac computers.
Although users can arrange windows to recreate a part of the function of the Split View, the way the operation is completely different. Many people think that the convenience and simplicity of Slide Over is difficult to replace with the new system.
However, this is only the first beta version. Apple can still listen to feedback and make changes, tweaking the multitasking feature before the iPados 26 version is officially released widely for users this fall.
