Distinguish between LCD screen and OLED screen

Two types of screen panels, OLED and LCD, are being used popular today on electronic devices such as phones, laptops, TVs or Smartwatch … In today’s article I will help you understand more about these two types of panels as well as their structure and advantages and disadvantages.

1. OLED image

Concept

OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) screen is a screen technology that includes glowing diodes and using a photometic emission layer with semiconductor materials capable of glowing when there is a current flowing.

Composition

OLED screen is made up of 4 main components

Paneles: The part we directly touch on the smartphone screen, made from glass or plastic to protect the inner structure of OLED

ANODE: Anode will create positive electric holes when there is any current running through the device

Cathode: Create negative charges or electron whenever there is a current flowing

Organic conductive layer: Including two layers, the leading layer and glowing layer. The leading layer is made up of flexible organic molecules to help transport blanks from anode. The glowing layer will transmit electrons from cathode.

Characteristic

Advantage

Help apply fingerprint unlock technology on the smartphone screen

OLED screen for display images with high brightness and contrast, giving users a more fresh, vivid color experience.

Save the energy for the device because there are self -lighting pixels

Thanks to the good display quality, does not emit too much light, it is possible to protect the user’s eyes

Disadvantages

High price

Easy to damage when a collision occurs, falling equipment or external force impact

2.LCD screen

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) Liquid crystal screen A type of device displayed by cells (pixels) containing liquid crystals that can change the polarization of light and thus change the light intensity transmitted when combined with polarized filter glasses. An easy -to -understand way, LCD type technology using backlights to create light rather than self -lighting.

IPS (In Plane Switching) LCD is the type of background for the highest image quality in LCD screens. Using IPS panel is different from TFT for viewing angle and image quality better than other LCD screens. In addition, IPS panels for honest images, more wider viewing angles than TFT.

Composition

The LCD screen is made up of multiple layers on top of each other. In particular, the first layer is backlight or white light, used in conventional screens made up of fluorescent. The second layer is the polarized filter glass and then along the natural light filter, 2 layers of glass with ITO electrode (2.4) clamp the liquid crystal layer in the middle (3). And a horizontal polarized filter glass (5), ending with light reflection mirrors for observers (6).

Advantage:

LCD screen for sharp, honest image quality

The viewing angle of the wide screen

Cheap price, applied in most areas and becoming components of most electronic devices displayed such as computers, TVs, phones …

Disadvantages

The color of the LCD screen is not vivid and flattering as on the OLED screen

Some of the cheap LCD background for the display quality is not good, the image is blurred when changing the viewing angle
